As banker to the community, our Purpose is to help individuals and businesses across communities achieve their aspirations by providing them with innovative financial solutions. In the same spirit, OCBC China has a programme designed to support the community, centred on helping children and youths realise their full potential.
At the official opening of OCBC China on 1 August 2007, we pledged a donation of RMB 1.5 million over a period of six years to the Shanghai Soong Ching Ling Foundation. The charity was set up in 1986 to commemorate Soong Ching Ling after her death, and is managed by the China Welfare Institute which was founded by Soong Ching Ling herself in 1938. Soong Ching Ling is the wife of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, who is often referred to as the “father of modern China.”
The focus of the Shanghai Soong Ching Ling Foundation is education and children-related issues and its network of assistance covers most parts of China. Disbursed under the Soong Ching Ling Scholarship, OCBC China’s donation will go towards providing scholarships to children from less privileged families.
Our corporate social responsibility programme continues from the legacy of our founder, Lee Kong Chian, who in the 1950s actively made contributions to schools and libraries and helped many children and youths fulfill their aspirations through education.
